Graves 8: Paper Airplane Competition

Did you fold Paper Airplanes as a kid?

I did, and loved it. We pulled out a Paper Plane book this month while studying Amelia Erheart and Flight, and we had an airplane making competition.

We wanted to talk about the different designs and how they perform. So our kids each had to choose a different plane from the book to fold.  Our youngest daughter, Daphne, folded the plane with the best speed and accuracy (with mom's help). And Cadence's plane had the least control.

We expected that some designs would perform better than others. For the most part, performance had everything to do with design and very little to do with the child's ability to fold.  Because, yes, I did help the younger ones get the folds precise where they lacked small motor skills to do so.

The kids had a blast experimenting and playing with their creations. The book we used came in a kit when my older kids were young. Although I can't find the exact book online to share, I have found several airplane making books and kits available for purchase and linked to them above and below for your convenience.

Happy folding! Watch the video below to see how it all unfolded (pun intended).
